Paul A. Rahe holds the Charles O. Lee and Louise K. Lee Chair in the Western Heritage at Hillsdale College and is the author of, among many other works, Soft Despotism, Democracy’s Drift: Montesquieu, Rousseau, Tocqueville, and the Modern Prospect (2009), and three books on ancient Lacedaemon: The Spartan Regime: Its Character, Origins, and Grand Strategy (2016), The Grand Strategy of Classical Sparta: The Persian Challenge (2015), and Sparta’s First Attic War: The Grand Strategy of Classical Sparta, 477-446 B.C. (2019). From 1984 to 1986, he was a fellow of the Institute of Current World Affairs in Turkey, Greece, and Cyprus.
