Bertrand de Jouvenel

0 by Bertrand de Jouvenel.

Bertrand de Jouvenel was born in Paris in 1903. He died in early 1987 at the age of 83. He was recently described as the "least famous of the great political thinkers of the twentieth century." As a distinguished teacher and author, he is best placed in the tradition of his earlier fellow Frenchman, Alexis de Tocqueville. He held an abiding suspicion of state power and an implicit great faith in community and a liberal society. Among his books are On Power (1948), Sovereignty: An Inquiry into the Political Good (1957), and The Pure Theory of Politics (1963). -Quoted from the biographical description of Jouvenel in the Liberty Fund edition of The Ethics of Redistribution.
